Titans Defeat LMU at Goodwin Field

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball defeated LMU Tuesday night at Goodwin Field by a final score of 11-2. The Titans are now 20-11 on the year. 

After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, the Titans immediately responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. 

With the bases loaded Zach Lew drew a walk to drive in the Titans first run of the game. One batter later, Max Ortega was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2-2. Following a pitching change by LMU, Jack Haley hit a two-run single to center field to give Fullerton a 4-2 advantage. 

The Titans opened the game up in the third inning, scoring five runs to take a commanding 9-2 lead. With the bases loaded again, Carter White came through with a base hit to drive in Haley. Moises Guzman then drew a bases loaded walk to put the Titans up 6-2. 

With no outs, Caden Connor grounded into a double play that drove in the Titans third run of the inning. With two outs and White at third base, Nate Nankil crushed a home run to left field for his fourth home run of the season.

Nankil went 2-for-3 on the night with two walks, two runs and two RBI. On the year Nankil is hitting .314 with 25 runs and a team-high 29 RBI. 

The Titans added another run in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a passed ball that allowed White to score from third base. White went 2-for-3 with a game-high three runs and an RBI. 

In the seventh inning the Titans plated one run on a wild pitch that brought home Guzman from third and put the Titans up 11-2. Guzman didn't record a hit in the game but he had two runs with a tied for career-high three walks. 

Fullerton used seven pitchers in the game who combined to strike out 12 batters while walking just four. Jason Blood earned the win to improve to 1-1 on the year after pitching two shutout innings while giving up just one hit. 

The Titans are back in action this weekend at Goodwin Field for a three-game conference series against CSU Bakersfield beginning Friday night. Prior to Friday's game the Titans will be retiring legendary head coach George Horton's jersey. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. PT.
