Latta Hits Walk-Off Single to Lift Titans Past Tulane

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton defeated Tulane in walk-off fashion Tuesday night at Goodwin Field by a final score of 6-5. With the win the Titans improve to 2-2 on the year. 

Maddox Latta was clutch for the Titans Tuesday night. In the eighth inning Latta hit the game-tying RBI before hitting the walk-off single to right field in the ninth. Latta went 2-for-3 on the night with two RBI and a walk. 

Fullerton fell behind early as Tulane hit solo home runs in the first and second inning. The Titans battled back immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the second to take a 3-2 lead. The Titans scored on a fielding error and two fielder's choice with Colby Wallace, Moises Guzman and Brendan Bobo scoring runs. 

Tulane responded in the top of the third inning as Brayden Morrow hit an RBI ground rule double to tie the game at 3-3. 

With the rain coming down in the sixth inning, Bobo hit a solo home run to right center field to put the Titans up 4-3. Bobo has hit two home runs in the last two games. 

Tulane scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead before Latta and the Titans responded with one run in the eighth and ninth to win the game. 

Fynn Chester came on in relief for the Titans in the eighth inning and pitched two no-hit innings on his way to earning the win. In two appearances this year, Chester has pitched six shutout innings while allowing just two hits. 

Fullerton is back in action Friday for its series opener against Michigan at Goodwin Field. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. PT.
