Six Titans Earn All-Conference Honors

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball collected six all-conference honors headlined by Austin Schell who earned First Team All-Conference, the Big West announced Thursday. 

Schell won the Big West batting title with a .382 average while finishing second in slugging percentage (.557) and OPS (1.011) and third in on-base percentage (.454). Schell is the first Titan to win the batting title since Mitchell Berryhill did so in 2019 and is the ninth Titan all-time to lead the conference in batting average. 

Caden Connor and Tyler Stultz earned Big West Second Team All-Conference. Connor finished the year with a .327 batting average while leading the team with 42 runs and 37 RBI. The sophomore recorded 14 doubles, two triples and four home runs. 

Stultz, the Titans Friday night starter, wrapped up the season with a 5-5 record and a 3.36 ERA in 88.1 innings pitched while striking out 86 batters and walking just 24. Stultz finished the year with a great performance in the Titans win over UCI, tossing 8.1 shutout innings while striking out a career-high 11 batters which earned him Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.

Fynn Chester, Zach Lew and Jackson Lyon all earned Big West Honorable Mention. Chester concluded the season with a 3-1 record and a 2.30 ERA in 62.2 innings pitched. Chester spent the majority of the season coming out of the bullpen before moving to the weekend rotation as the Titans Sunday starter the final four weeks of the year. In those four starts, Chester allowed just three earned runs in 25.2 innings pitched. 

The first year transfer pitched a complete game shutout in the Titans win over Long Beach State on just 76 pitches which earned him Big West Pitcher of the Week honors. He followed up that performance with a career-high eight strikeouts while giving up just one run in eight innings in the Titans win over UCI in the final game of the season. 

Zach Lew locked down the hot corner all year for the Titans, making highlight reel plays defensively all season. Lew finished his fourth year with the Titans with a .317 average and finished tied for second on the team with 36 runs and third on the team with 29 RBI. 

Lyon had arguably his best collegiate season in 2022, finishing second on the team with a .328 batting average and tied for second on the team with 36 runs and tied for third on the team with 29 RBI. Lyon finished second on the team with seven home runs while recording 11 doubles and two triples.
