Seniors Shine in Season Finale Win Over UC Irvine

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball defeated UC Irvine 9-3 in the season finale Saturday afternoon at Goodwin Field to clinch the series win over the Anteaters.

The Titans bats were firing on all cylinders throughout the game, recording 15 hits and four home runs, the most home runs in a single game since May of 2019 against CSUN.

Senior Austin Schell got the Titans offense going early, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to put the team up 2-0. Schell secured the Big West batting title after finishing the year with a .382 average. Schell is the first to win the conference batting title since Mitchell Berryhill did so in 2019.

After a Zach Lew single, Brendan Bobo crushed a two-run shot to right field to give Fullerton an early 4-0 lead.

In his next at-bat in the third inning, Bobo hit a solo home run 422 feet to right center field for his second of the game and team-high eighth of the year. Bobo hit three home runs in the last two games.

Fullerton added another run in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single by Caden Connor to drive in JT Navyac.

Bobo hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to bring home Connor to put the Titans up 7-0. Bobo went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI.

In what could be his final at-bat in a Titans uniform, Deylan Pigford hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, his four career home run and first of the season.

Fynn Chester had another dominant outing for the Titans, allowing just one run on six hits in eight innings pitched while striking out a career-high eight batters.

The Titans finish the 2022 season with a record of 22-33 and 14-16 in Big West Conference play.
