FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton took game one of the series against UC Irvine with a 2-0 shutout victory Thursday night at Goodwin Field. The Titans improved to 21-32 and 13-15 in conference play.

The Titans got another gem of a performance from Tyler Stultz who pitched a shutout in a career-high 8.1 innings pitched, allowing just six hits while walking two and striking out a career-high 11 batters. Stultz one-upped his career-high from a week ago where he had 10 strikeouts against Long Beach State.

Stultz wrapped up his first Division I season in style with his performance against UC Irvine. He finishes the year with a 5-5 record and a 3.36 ERA in 88.1 innings pitched.

The Titans have now recorded a shutout victory in back-to-back games, doing so for the first time since May 5-6, 2018 against UC Davis.

Fullerton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the third inning on an RBI double to right center field by Caden Connor to drive in Damone Hale

Hale drove in an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single to right field, bringing home JT Navyac from second base.

Austin Schell entered the game as the Big West batting leader with a .390 average. Schell went 2-for-4 Thursday night to improve his average to .393 with two games remaining.

Peyton Jones came on in relief in the ninth inning with one out and runners on first second. Jones got two quick outs to end the game and earn his first career save.

The Titans are back in action Friday night at Goodwin Field looking to secure the series victory. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
