Titans Rally From Down Five Runs to Defeat San Diego

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton overcame a five-run deficit to defeat San Diego by a final score 8-7 Tuesday night at Goodwin Field. With the win the Titans improve to 16-22 on the season. 

The two teams went into the eighth inning tied at 7-7. JT Navyac got the Titans going with a leadoff single. After Navyac stole second to get in scoring position Caden Connor singled to the first baseman with two outs, bringing home Navyac for the game-winning run. 

Navyac had a career-high three hits in the win, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Connor went 3-for-5 with one run and three RBI. 

Fullerton fell behind in the second as San Diego scored five runs in the top half of the inning. However, the Titans responded with three runs in the bottom half of the second on a sacrifice fly from Cole Urman and two-run double by connor. 

The Toreros answered in the third with two runs to go up 7-3. From that point the Titans didn't surrender another run, scoring five unanswered throughout the remainder of the game. 

The Titans scored two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double from Jackson Lyon and an RBI single by Jason Brandow. Lyon had another productive game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, an RBI and a walk. Brandow also went 2-for-4, with two runs and an RBI. 

Fullerton tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Brendan Bobo followed by a wild play that included two errors by San Diego that allowed Brandow to score all the way from first. 

Ryan Gil earned the win for the Titans after pitching one shutout inning, giving up just one hit to improve to 2-1. Michael Weisberg earned his third save of the year after pitching a shutout in the final frame. 

The Titans head to Hawai'i for a three-game Big West Conference series against the Rainbow Warriors beginning Friday night.
