FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton defeated CSUN, 3-2, in the series opener Friday night at Goodwin Field. The Titans extend their winning streak to five games and improve to 15-20 on the year and 9-4 in conference play.

The two teams were in a pitchers duel throughout much of the game as they headed into the eighth inning tied at 2-2.

With Zach Lew standing on second with one out, Carter White stepped to the plate to pinch hit and came through with a clutch game-winning RBI single past the second baseman.

After giving up a run in the top of the first inning, the Titans tied the game in the second on an RBI double by Austin Schell to score JJ Cruz all the way from first.

Schell had an impressive night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and an RBI. Schell has come on as of late at the plate for the Titans, hitting .383 with 16 RBI.

Caden Connor also had a good night at the plate for the Titans, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.

CSUN regained the lead in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Joey Kramer. Fullerton quickly responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up at 2-2. Schell got in scoring position on a double before a base hit advanced him to third and an error by the first baseman allowed him to score.

Tyler Stultz once again had another strong outing for the Titans on the mound, pitching 7.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out four. Cameron Repetti earned the win after pitching 1.2 innings, striking out four while not allowing a single hit.

Blaine Traxel pitched eight innings for CSUN, allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out six batters but drew the loss to fall to 4-3 this season.

Fullerton looks to secure the series victory against CSUN Saturday night at Goodwin Field. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m. PT.
