Titans Beat UC Davis to Complete Series Sweep

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball completed the series sweep over UC Davis Saturday afternoon with a 11-7 victory at Goodwin Field. The Titans improve to 13-20 and 8-4 in the conference. 

The Titans jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after scoring four runs in the first inning and three in the second. Caden Connor and Jackson Lyon started the inning with back-to-back hits before an infielding error allowed Connor to score. 

Lyon had another great game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and a walk. In three games against UC Davis, Lyon went 8-for-12 for a .667 batting average with five runs and four RBI. 

With the bases loaded, Austin Schell hit an RBI single to drive in Lyon. One batter later Nate Nankil doubled down the left field line to drive in two more runs and make it a 4-0 game. 

Jason Brandow and Austin Schell drove in two more runs in the bottom of the second inning on RBI singles before Brandow was able to score on a passed ball to put the Titans up 7-0. 

UC Davis scored four runs in the top of the third inning to cut into the Titans lead. However, Fullerton responded with three runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Lyon and another RBI single by Schell. Schell went 3-for-5 with one run and three RBI Saturday. 

Brandow put the Titans up 11-4 in the eighth inning on a solo home run to left field for his fourth home run of the season. Brandow went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. 

The Aggies scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to close in on the Titans but Michael Weisberg came on in relief and quickly got two outs to secure the Titans victory. 

Gavin Meyer earned the win for the Titans after pitching one shutout inning while striking out the side. Meyer improves to 2-1 on the season with the win. 

Cal State Fullerton is back in action Tuesday as USC comes to Goodwin Field for a midweek matchup at 6:00 p.m. PT.
