Season-High 18 Hits Leads to Titans Victory Over Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball defeated CSU Bakersfield, 10-7, Sunday afternoon at Hardt Field. The Titans improve to 10-16 and 5-4 in conference play.

The Titans jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after scoring three runs in the first inning and two runs in the top of the second. 

Jackson Lyon got the scoring going in the first with a solo home run, his third of the season, to left center field. Lyon had an outstanding game at the plate, going 4-for-6 with three runs and an RBI.  

Cole Urman and Nate Nankil followed up Lyon's home run with a pair of RBI singles to put the Titans up 3-0 in the first. 

Following a leadoff single by Jack Haley, Caden Connor blasted a two-run home run to right field to make it a 2-0 game. Connor now has two home runs on the season.

CSU Bakersfield scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut into the Titans lead. However, Fullerton responded with one run in the top of the fourth on a Jason Brandow RBI single to push its lead to 6-2. The Roadrunners would answer with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take its first lead of the game, 7-6. 

Trailing by one run in the seventh inning, J.T. Navyac singled through the left side of the infield to bring home Damone Hale and tie the game at 7-7. 

Fullerton took the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Lyon got into scoring position with a one-out double. Zach Lew pushed Lyon to third before an RBI single by Brandow brought him home to give the Titans the lead. 

Brendan Bobo came into pitch hit in the eighth and came up with a clutch RBI single to push the Titans lead to 9-7. One batter later, Urman picked up his second RBI of the game to drive in Brandow and make it a 10-7 game. Urman went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. 

The Titans recorded a season-high 18 hits in Sunday's win, out-hitting Bakersfield 18- 8. In the three games Fullerton out-hit the Roadrunners 36-27.

Freshman Evan Yates got his second start of the season and went 3.1 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out a career-high five batters. 

Ryan Gil earned the win for the Titans (1-0) after pitching two shutout innings in relief. Cameron Repetti earned his second save of the season after pitching two shutout innings. Gil and Repetti didn't allow a single hit through the final four innings. 

Fullerton returns back to Southern California to face UC Irvine in a nonconference midweek matchup Tuesday before heading to Michigan for a three-game series beginning Friday.
