BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball dropped game two of its series at CSU Bakersfield, 5-3, Saturday night at Hardt Field. The Titans are now 9-16 and 4-4 in conference play.
After dropping game one of the series in the 11th inning Friday night, the Titans had somewhat of a slow start Saturday evening as the Roadrunners jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring one run in the first and second inning.
The Titans got the bats going in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three runs on five hits to take the lead. Jason Brandow got the inning going with a single before back-to-back hits by Brendan Bobo and J.T Navyac brought him home to get the Titans on the board.
Jack Haley was surely going to record a productive out to score Bobo but a fielding error by Bakersfield allowed him to reach base before advancing to second on a throw home. One batter later Jackson Lyon drove in Haley to give the Titans a 3-2 lead.
CSU Bakersfield came back to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs on just two hits.
Christian Rodriguez had another quality outing for the Titans. Rodriguez pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on just four hits.
The Titans look to avoid the sweep Sunday in the third and final game at Bakersfield. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at Hardt Field.
