Titans defeat San Jose State at Goodwin Field, 6-5

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball defeated San Jose State, 6-5, Wednesday night at Goodwin Field. The Titans are on a four-game winning streak and improve their overall record to 9-14. 

The Titans took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Austin Schell to score Caden Connor from third base. 

Fullerton added to its lead in the third on an RBI double by Jackson Lyon. One batter later, Zach Lew hit his first home run of the season to put the Titans up 4-0. 

Lew went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run and a game-high three RBI. Lew has a team-high 17 RBI this season and has driven in eight runs in the Titans last two games. 

San Jose State cut into the Titans lead in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs to make it a one score game. The Spartans tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning. 

The Titans didn't take long to respond, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to retake the lead. Familiar faces came through again for the Titans as Lew singled to score Jack Haley. Schell would then bring Connor home on a sacrifice fly. 

Connor had a game-high three runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk. Connor has scored three runs in three different games this season and has five runs in the Titans last two games. 

Ryan Gil got the start on the mound for the Titans and pitched two shutout innings while not allowing a single hit and striking out four batters. Fynn Chester earned his first win of the season after pitching 1.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits. Cameron Repetti picked up the save, his first of the year. Repetti pitched the final two innings, giving up one run on four hits while striking out four. 

The Titans return to Big West Conference play this weekend as the team hits the road for a three-game series at CSU Bakersfield beginning Friday evening.
