Baseball defeats UC Riverside to clinch series victory

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball defeated UC Riverside, 2-1, Saturday night at Goodwin Field to clinch the conference series. The Titans improve to 7-14 and 3-2 in Big West play. 

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, The Titans tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Caden Connor to score Nate Nankil. Nankil had another strong game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run. 

Fullerton scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brendan Bobo led off the inning with a triple to left center field before Jason Brandow drove him in with a sacrifice fly. 

Christian Rodriguez had another solid outing on the mound for the Titans, pitching six innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out nine and walking just one. Rodriguez picked up his first career win Saturday night. 

Cameron Repetti came on in relief in the seventh and pitched two shutout innings while not allowing a hit. Michael Weisberg earned his second save of the season after pitching the final frame. 

The Titans look to sweep the series against UC Riverside Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. PT. 

Prior to the game Saturday night, former Senior Associate Athletics Director Steve DiTolla threw out the first pitch. DiTolla was an integral part of Cal State Fullerton Athletics, serving the department and the university for over three decades. The athletics department and the Fullerton South Rotary Club celebrated DiTolla's retirement Saturday afternoon.
