Baseball drops road contest at USC, 11-10

LOS ANGELES – Cal State Fullerton baseball lost to USC Tuesday night at Dedeaux Field by a final score of 11-10. The Titans are now 5-14 this season 

After falling behind by two runs in the bottom of the second inning, the Titans responded with a four spot in the top of the third to take the lead. 

Caden Connor drove in Tristan Gomes for the first run of the inning before Brendan Bobo blasted a three-run home run to center field for his second home run of the season. 

USC immediately responded with four runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth inning to retake the lead. 

Bobo came into Tuesday night's game with one home run on the year. He hit two against USC. In the fifth inning he launched a solo home run to left center field to bring the Titans within one run, 5-6. Bobo went 2-for-5 on the night with two runs and four RBI. 

The Titans took the lead in the top of the sixth inning on a two-out rally. Jack Haley got the rally going with a single to the shortstop before an RBI single by Connor drove him in to tie the game. Jackson Lyon then dove in Connor to give Fullerton the lead. Connor had an impressive night at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and three walks. 

The Titans extended their lead in the seventh inning on an RBI single by JJ Cruz to score Jakob Schardt from second base. Jack Haley then singled to center field to bring home Cruz. Lyon then drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Brandow and put the Titans up 10-6. Haley was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game with two runs and one RBI. 

The Trojans responded with two runs in the seventh inning and three runs in the eighth inning to take the lead. 

Anthony Joya got his first collegiate start for the Titans and pitched two innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits while striking out one. Michael Weisberg drew the loss and is now 1-1. USC's Matt Keating earned the win after pitching 2.1 shutout innings to improve to 2-0 this season.

After five straight games on the road the Titans return to Goodwin Field for their Big West Conference home opener Friday night.
