STANFORD, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball dropped game three of its series to No. 6 Stanford, 11-1, Sunday afternoon at Sunken Diamond. With the loss, the Titans are now 1-2 after the opening weekend.
Stanford took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double down the left field line by Carter Graham to score Drew Bowser. Brett Barrera then tripled to score Graham and make it a 2-0 game.
The Titans answered in the top of the sixth inning as Damone Hale scored on a wild pitch to bring the team within one run. While cutting the deficit to just one run, the Titans did come up short in the sixth inning as they had the bases loaded with one out.
The Cardinal responded in the bottom half of the sixth inning as Braden Montgomery hit a two-run home run to put Stanford up 4-1. Stanford added five more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 9-1 lead before scoring two in the eighth.
Christian Rodriguez got the nod Sunday and went four innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while walking five and striking out two. Drew Dowd earned the win for Stanford after going 5.1 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run.
Fullerton returns home to Goodwin Field for a three-game series against Gonzaga beginning Friday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
