Box Score

STANFORD, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball dominated No. 6 Stanford, 11-0, Saturday afternoon at Sunken Diamond. Head Coach Jason Dietrich earned his first win as a head coach.

The Titans bats came alive in game two of the series as the team jumped ahead in the third inning on three runs. JT Navyac got things going with a base-hit before advancing to second on a wild pitch. One batter later, Damone Hale then singled up the middle to score Navyac and get the Titans on the board. Hale had a great Titans debut, going 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs and an RBI.

After a Zach Lew single to get Hale to third, Nate Nankil hit a sacrifice fly to deep left-center to extend the Titans lead to 2-0. Austin Schell then came up with a base hit to score Caden Connor to make it a 3-0 lead after three innings.

Fullerton really broke the game open in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Lew singled to score Jackson Lyon from third. Lew did what Titans fans have come to expect from him, going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

The Titans weren't done yet. One batter later, Connor blasted a grand slam to right field to put the Titans up 8-0. The grand slam is Connor's first career home run. Connor went 1-for-3 with one run, four RBI and two walks.

Just when Stanford thought it couldn't get any worse in the fourth inning, Schell hit a solo home run down the left field to put up six runs in the fourth inning and make it a 9-0 lead. Schell went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

The Titans added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on a two RBI double by Lyon to score Cole Urman and Schell. Lyon went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI.

Fullerton's pitching staff once again had a fantastic outing, shutting out the No. 6 team in the country. Tyler Stultz started on the mound and went 5 innings giving up just four hits while striking out three and walking one.

Jake Vargas, Gavin Meyer, Samuel Gomez and Fynn Chester each pitched one inning of relief and didn't allow a single hit. In two games against Stanford, the Titans pitching staff has just six hits and hasn't allowed a single run.

The Titans return to Sunken Diamond Sunday afternoon looking to secure the series victory. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT.
