Baseball Loses Both Games of Doubleheader to Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton lost both games of the doubleheader Saturday against Cal Poly at Baggett Stadium. The Titans lost the first game of the day by a score of 13-3 and game two 

Game One
Cal Poly jumped ahead early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brooks Lee led the Mustangs with six RBI including a grand slam in the sixth inning. 

Andrew Alvarez earned the win for Cal Poly after pitching six innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits. Alvarez is now 6-3 this season. 

Ryan Hare earned the loss for Fullerton, giving up four earned runs in one inning of work. Hare is now 0-4. Austin Schell got the Titans on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field. Schell went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. 

In the fourth, Nate Nankil drove in Schell from third on a productive out. Nankil went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Miguel Ortiz drove in the third run of the game on a single to left center, bringing home Jason Brandow for his first RBI of the season. Ortiz went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. 

Game Two
The Mustangs scored early and often again in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the first, two in the second and three in the third to take an early 8-0 lead. 

Cal Poly scored one more run in the fifth and sixth inning to take a 10-0 lead and end the game in the seventh inning on the run rule. 

The two teams are back in action Sunday afternoon for the fourth and final game of the series beginning at 1:00 p.m. PT.
