Titans Tackle Matadors In Extra Innings To Split Series

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton took game four of the series against CSUN by a final score of 6-5 in the 10th inning Sunday afternoon at Matador Field.

Fullerton was tied at 5-5 in extra innings before Deylan Pigford hit a clutch base hit up the middle to score Jackson Lyon which would turn out to be the game winning run. 

In an unexpected pitching change, the Titans brought in Friday night ace, Tanner Bibee, in the ninth inning with one out to close out the game. Bibee got the Titans out of a jam in the ninth before securing the win in the bottom of the 10th inning to secure the win and move to 6-4 on the year. 

Trailing 2-1 late in the game, Fullerton plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Jake Harvey started the inning by reaching on a fielder's error followed by back-to-back hits by Caden Connor and Isaiah Garcia to load the bases with no outs. Cole Urman then hit a single to score Harvey and tie the game at 2-2. 

One batter later, Jackson Lyon hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Connor and put the Titans up 3-2. With runners on first and second and one out, Nate Nankil singled to center field to bring home Isaiah Garcia. Josh Urps capped off the inning with another sacrifice fly to drive in Urman and put the Titas up 5-2. 

The Matadors responded with one run in the bottom of the eighth and two in the ninth to tie the game at 5-5 and send it to extra innings for the second time this series. 

The Titans struck first in the top of the second inning on a RBI single by Nankil through the left side of the infield to score Isaiah Garcia from second base. 

Fullerton's lead didn't last long as CSUN answered with one run in the bottom half of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. 

Kyle Luckham had one of his best starts of the season, pitching 6.2 innings, giving up just two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out four. Cameron Repetti allowed three earned runs in 1.2 innings of relief. 

The Titans are back at Goodwin Field this weekend for the first time in three weeks to face Hawaii in a four-game conference series beginning Friday night.
