Fullerton Overcomes Three-Run Deficit to Defeat UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (15-16, 8-4) overcame a three-run deficit to defeat UC Davis 10-24, 5-15) 7-6 Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium. Fullerton clinched a 3-1 series victory with the win.

Trailing 6-4 with just six outs left in the game, Fullerton scored three runs in the eighth to take a 7-6 lead. With runners on first and second, Jackson Lyon piped a ball up the middle to drive in Jake Gentry and pull the Titans within one run. One batter later Caden Connor hit a two-run double down the left field line to give the Titans the lead. 

After giving up two runs in the bottom of the second inning, the Titans responded with three in the third to take the lead. Deylan Pigford hit a two-run double, his tied for team-high eighth double of the year, to tie the game at 2-2. Pigford had a strong day, going 2-for-2 with a run, two RBI and a walk. 

Jason Brandow then drove in Pigford on a double of his own, his tied for team-high eighth of the season as well, to give the Titans a 3-2 lead.

UC Davis scored two runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to lead 6-3 after six innings. Fullerton had a great chance to score multiple runs in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out

Kyle Luckham started the game on the mound for Fullerton and went 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Cameron Repetti earned the win after giving up one run on five hits in 2.2 innings of work. Landon Anderson picked up his first save of the season after not allowing a single hit in the final two innings of the game. 

Brett Erwin pitched 5.0 innings for UC Davis, giving up three runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Nolan Meredith got the loss for the Aggies after giving up three runs in 1.1 innings. 

Fullerton is back on the road next weekend as the team heads to Northridge for a four-game conference series against CSUN.
