FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton split the doubleheader with UC Santa Barbara Saturday at Goodwin Field, dropping the first game 11-4 and taking the second, 4-1.

GAME 1
The Titans (5-12) hung around for most of the game before UC Santa Barbara pulled away in the late innings of the contest.

UCSB (11-6) got off to a fast start as Marcos Castanon and Broc Mortensen hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to take an early lead.

With runners on second and third and just one out, Deylan Pigford came up with a base hit to drive in Brendan Bobo and put the Titans on the board. One batter later JT Navyac recorded an infield single to score Nate Nankil to tie the game at 1-1.

With the bases loaded Caden Connor singled to center field to bring home Pigford and Navyac, giving the Titans a 4-2 lead.

UC Santa Barbara came back to tie the game with two runs in the fifth inning. The Gauchos then scored one run in the seventh and eighth inning, taking a two run lead before blowing the game open in the ninth with five runs.

Kyle Luckham drew the loss for the Titans after pitching 6.2 innings, giving up five runs. Michael McGreevy moves to 3-0 for UCSB, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned).

GAME 2
For the first time this series the Titans struck first, scoring one run in the first inning on an RBI single by Jake Gentry to bring in Caden Connor from third, Gentry's first RBI of the season.

Fullerton added to its lead in the fourth inning as Gentry was able to score on a fielding error by the UCSB shortstop to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

The Gauchos added one run in the sixth inning to narrow the advantage, however, the Titans came back to score two runs in the seventh inning to make it a 4-1 game. After a one out single by Cole Urman, Connor stepped to the plate with two outs and blasted a double off the wall to left field to put the Titans up 3-1. Through three games this weekend, Connor is 6-for-13 with three RBI and two runs.

One batter after Connor, Zach Lew hit another double to deep left, bringing home Connor and giving the Titans a three run cushion heading into the eighth inning.

Landon Anderson pitched an excellent game for the Titans, starting his first game of the season and pitching a career-high six innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out seven batters, also a career high. Anderson picked up the win and is now 2-1 this season.

The Titans handed UCSB's Cory Lewis his first loss of the season. Lewis pitched six innings, giving up four hits and two runs.

Jake Vargas came on in relief of Anderson and pitched a near perfect outing, going 2.1 innings and allowing just one hit. Cameron Repetti made his first pitching appearance of the season, coming on with two on and one out and got two quick outs to close the game and earn his first save of the season.

The Titans look to even the series against the Gauchos at 2-2 Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT.
