Titans Stumble in Game Three Against Arizona State

PHOENIX – Cal State Fullerton dropped the third and final game of the series against Arizona State by a final score of 5-2 Sunday afternoon. 

The Titans (4-10) struck first as Cameron Repetti drove in Omar Veloz in the top of the second inning. However, the Sun Devils (11-2) came back in the bottom of the second inning and scored four runs to take the lead right back. 

Caden Connor hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to score JT Navyac and cut the deficit to just two runs but once against Arizona State immediately responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning. Navyac had the best game of his young career, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and run. 

Michael Knorr started the game for the Titans and picked up the loss, his first of the year. Knorr went six innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs. The sophomore righty got into a rhythm after the second inning, allowing just one hit over the next four innings. Jake Vargas had a strong performance in the mound in relief, pitching one inning while not allowing a hit and striking out one. 

Justin Fall got the nod for Arizona State and pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four hits and one earned run on his way to earning the win and improving to 2-0 on the season. 

The Titans turn their attention to Big West Conference play as UC Santa Barbara comes to Goodwin Field for a four game series beginning Mar. 19 at 5:00 p.m. PT.
