AUSTIN, Texas – Cal State Fullerton dropped the third and final game of the series to Texas by a final score of 8-4, Sunday afternoon at Disch-Falk Field.
The Titans were swept in the three-game series against the Longhorns and are now 4-12 this season while Texas moves to 13-3.
For the first time this series the Titans didn't score first as Texas put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Titans responded in the second inning with three runs of their own to tie the game up.
Fullerton scored on a RBI groundout by Zach Lew before Jackson Lyon doubled to drive in Josh Urps from second base. Lyon had a productive day, going 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI. Miguel Ortiz also had a good outing at the dish as he went 1-for-2 on the day with two runs and two hit by pitches.
After tying up the game, the Titans gave up runs in the next three consecutive innings to give the lead right back to the Longhorns. Joe Magrisi suffered the loss for the Titans after pitching two innings while Dawson Merryman earned the win for Texas with four shutout innings of relief.
The Titans return home to Goodwin Field for a three-game series against Xavier beginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m. PT.
