Game Notes

FULLERTON, Calif. – The time has finally come for Cal State Fullerton to return to the diamond as the Titans head north to take on No. 17 Stanford in a three-game series beginning Friday night.

The Titans and Cardinal have a long history, dating all the way back to 1979. Stanford has a slight edge in the all-time matchup with a record of 64-51. However, the Titans have gotten the best of the Cardinal the past few seasons, defeating Stanford in their own regional in both 2017 and 2018 to advance to Super Regionals.

While Fullerton has come out on top when the games mattered most, the two teams have been even over the past five seasons, both with five wins while each scoring a total of 29 runs. Stanford came to Goodwin Field in 2019 and took two out of the three games. The Titans took Sunday's game on a walk-off hit by Jairus Richards.

Much like 2019, Tanner Bibee will be the Friday night starter on the mound to open up the season. Coming into the year, D1 Baseball ranked Bibee as the No. 76 pitcher in the country. First pitch for Friday night's game is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and 1:05 p.m. PT.

The Titans come into the 2020 season looking to prove to the country that Cal State Fullerton is still a powerhouse program after missing the postseason in 2019. If history can repeat itself the Titans will be back in the hunt in 2020. Following the Titans missing the postseason in 1991, the team was right back where they belong in 1992, playing for the national championship in Omaha.
