FULLERTON, Calif. – Pitchers Timothy Josten and Kyle Luckham combined for a shutout game as the Titans dominated Long Beach State, 6-0, Thursday night at Goodwin Field.
The Titans have now won all four games against the Dirtbags this season and are looking for a six-game season series sweep for the first time since 2013.
Fullerton only led by one run for a majority of the game before breaking the game open with a four run seventh inning. The Titans have outscored opponents 49-10 in the seventh inning this season.
Josten had his best start of the season on the mound for Fullerton as he went seven innings, giving up just four hits while striking out two batters. Luckham come on in relief in the eighth inning and allowed just three hits in the final two innings. It is the third time this season the Titans have shut out an opponent this season.
Zach Lew tied a career-high with three hits as he went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs and a RBI. Lew ranks fourth on the team with a .324 batting average to go along with a .440 on-base percentage and 10 RBI.
Senior Hank LoForte and Jacob Pavletich had big games in what will be their last home series at Goodwin Field. LoForte went 3-for-4 with one walk, one run and a RBI. Pavletich went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and one run.
Fullerton returns to the ballpark for game two of the series Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 8:15 p.m. PT. Senior day will take place before game three on Saturday afternoon.
