Fullerton Falls in Final Game of Series to UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – After sweeping the doubleheader on Saturday, Cal State Fullerton (22-25, 8-10) dropped the final game of the series to UC Riverside (17-31, 6-12) by a score of 8-3 Sunday afternoon at The Plex.

For the first time in the series the Titans were unable to get on the board first as UC Riverside scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. Fullerton came back within one run in the fifth but weren't able to overcome the deficit before the Highlanders extended the lead in the fifth in sixth inning, scoring a combined five runs.

Mitchell Berryhill went 2-for-5 on the day with one RBI. Berryhill is now hitting .419 this season which would leave him with the fourth highest batting average in a single season in the history of the program.

Isaiah Garcia has been able to bring his batting average up significantly over the past few games as he finished the series with a 2-for-4 day with one RBI and a walk. Garcia went 7-for-15 in the three game series to bring his average up to .343.

The Titans used a full staff day for the pitchers on Sunday, starting Joe Magrisi who went two innings allowing six hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out three. Jimmy Endersby come on and pitched a clean inning and struck out two batters.

Michael Knorr pitched the most for the Titans Sunday, going three innings while giving up six hits, five runs and striking three. Michael Weisberg and Titus Groeneweg finished the final two innings, pitching one each and not allowing any runs.

Fullerton returns to action next week with a three game series against rivals Long Beach State. The series will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to commencement on campus while Thursday night's game will be aired on ESPNU
