Fullerton Continues to Dominate on Sunday's With Win Over San Diego State

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Titans once again finished off a weekend series on a high-note as they defeated San Diego State 7-2 Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field.

With the win Fullerton (15-17) is now 8-1 on Sunday's with the only loss coming to UC Santa Barbara. Michael Knorr started the game on the mound and went six innings, giving up six hits and only allowing two runs. Knorr moves to 3-2 on the season and the Titans are 7-2 when Knorr starts.

For the first time this series the Titans scored the first run of the game, scoring one in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Isaiah Garcia to drive in Hank LoForte and give the Titans an early 1-0 lead. LoForte was stellar at the plate Sunday afternoon as he went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. LoForte has a team-high 28 runs along to go along with 17 RBI and a .304 batting average.

San Diego State came back to take the lead in the second inning with two runs, however, the Titans were not going to be denied as they put up three runs in the bottom half of the third inning to take the lead right back. The Titans scored two runs on a two-out single from to left field from Mitchell Berryhill before adding another run on a single to center field from Daniel Cope.

Berryhill was outstanding at the plate yet again as he went 3-for-4 with with two RBI and one run. The senior is hitting an impressive .443 to lead the Big West Conference which also ranks third in the nation. Berryhill is also boasting a 41 game on-base streak dating back to the 2018 season to go along with 20 RBI and 20 runs this season.

Fullerton added three runs of insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning with help from a throwing error on San Diego State that allowed Berryhill to score before LoForte singled to right field, driving in Jacob Pavletich and Jairus Richards to put the Titans up 7-2.

Dillon Brown came on in relief of Knorr in the seventh inning and was lights out for the Titans to pick up his first save of the season. Brown pitched three scoreless innings while not allowing a single hit and not walking a batter.

Cal State Fullerton returns to Big West Conference play next weekend as they head to the islands for a meeting with Hawai'i in a three-game series beginning Thursday with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. PT.
