FULLERTON, Calif. – Coming off of a series win against Cal Poly, the Titans head to Los Angeles for a midweek meeting with the USC Trojans Tuesday night with first pitch at 6:00 p.m. PT.
Fullerton scored more runs in the three game series against Cal Poly than they have in any three-game series all season, outscoring the Mustangs 35-13 after putting up a season-high 16 runs in both Friday and Sunday's wins.
Mitchell Berryhill was on a tear all weekend which lead to him being named the Big West Field Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Berryhill hit an outstanding .833 (10-for-12) with four walks and a hit by pitch.
The senior finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 16-2 series-opening win. In Saturday's 5-3 loss, Berryhill tripled as part of a 3-for-3 effort, walked and drove in a run.
In Sunday's rubber game, Berryhill recorded his second straight 3-for-3 performance while scoring twice and adding two RBI. He also drew three walks to reach safely in all six plate appearances.
The Utah native his hitting .439 on the season which leads the Big West Conference and ranks fifth in the entire country. He has also reached base in every game this season and is on a 37-game on-base streak dating back to last season.
Fullerton's probable starter for Tuesday's game looks to be redshirt junior Gavin Velasquez who is 1-0 on the season with one save and a 6.65 ERA in 21.2 innings pitched. Velasquez made one appearance last weekend against Cal Poly and gave up one hit and one run.
The Trojans probable starter appears to be left-handed pitcher Brian Gursky who is 0-1 on the season with a 8.59 ERA in eight appearances. USC is coming off of a series win against No. 13 Arizona State at Dedeaux Field.
