FULLERTON, Calif. – With the season right around the corner, Cal State Fullerton has been ranked No. 24 on the USA Today Coaches Poll, the publication announced Thursday. The Titans are coming off a 2018 campaign that saw them host a Super Regional for the 10th time in program history and its 27th consecutive postseason berth.
The Titans have now been ranked in the top-30 in four preseason rankings leading up to the 2019 season.
Fullerton is the fourth highest ranked team on the west coast, only behind UCLA, Stanford and Oregon State. Fullerton has four teams ranked in the top-25 on its schedule for the 2019 season including No. 2 ranked Vanderbilt.
For the Titans, it'll be a good mix of returners and newcomers that should make up a team worthy of its top-25 preseason ranking. Fullerton welcomes back seven of the nine starting field players from a season ago including double-play duo Hank LoForte and Sahid Valenzuela. The Titans will also be under the leadership of five-time Big West Coach of the Year Rick Vanderhook, who enters his eighth season as head coach.
Fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2019 Titans on Jan. 26 at Goodwin Field, as Fullerton will hold its annual Alumni Game at 1 p.m. PT.
Fullerton will officially open the season at the MLB Collegiate Tournament Feb. 15-17 in Arizona against TCU, Vanderbilt and Virginia. The Titans then host their home opener on Feb. 18 against 2018's Super Regional opponent, Washington, in a matinee game at 2:00 p.m.
