Full D1Baseball Top 100 Prospects List
FULLERTON, Calif. - Junior right-handed pitchers Colton Eastman and Andrew Quezada have been named to D1Baseball.com's 2018 Draft: College Top 100 Prospects List, the publication announced on Wednesday.
D1Baseball's list breaks down the top college prospects heading into the 2018 college baseball season in regards to their projection in the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft in June. Eastman was placed at No. 33 on the list, while Quezada was ranked No. 100 on the list. Eastman's ranking is the highest of any Big West player on the list.
He put together one of the most heroic seasons in college baseball in 2017. After being injured most of the season, Eastman came back just in the nick of time. The Fresno, California native compiled a perfect 2-0 mark to go along with a 2.14 ERA and 37 strikeouts in only eight appearances.
He saved his best performance for the biggest game of the season, as he tossed seven innings, struck out eight, surrendered just one hit and zero earned runs en route to a 2-1 victory over Long Beach State to send the Titans to Omaha in game three of Long Beach Super Regional.
Before his injury, the Fresno, California native had high expectations for the 2017 campaign, as he was named the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List and a preseason All-American from D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA.
This year the expectations are similar, as he's been named to Collegiate Baseball's Preseason All-American Second Team.
As for Quezada, it's no surprise he's on this list either. While at Cypress College, the Bellflower, California was nearly unhittable, as he compiled a microscopic 1.17 ERA and led his team to a state semifinal berth. He also recorded the first no-hitter in program history.
Before attending Cypress College, he spent three years playing varsity baseball Mayfair High School. He obtained all-league shortstop honors in 2013, all-league utility player status in 2014 and was named the Suburban League's Pitcher of the Year in 2015.
He led the Monsoon to league championships in both 2012 and 2013.
Both Eastman and Quezada figure to hold key roles in this year's Titan pitching rotation as Fullerton hopes to make yet another return trip to Omaha. The Titans have been nationally ranked in each of the first two preseason polls that have been release. They're placed No. 12 in Collegiate Baseball's poll and No. 19 Perfect Game's poll.
