Turner Named to National League All-Star Team Via Final Vote

MLB.com Release

MIAMI – Former Titan infielder Justin Turner has won the MLB Final Vote beating out Kris Bryant for the final spot on the National League All-Star Team. It is the 11th time a Titan has been chosen for the All-Star Game.

Turner set an MLB Final Vote Record, as he recorded 20.8 million votes.

Turner is the seventh former Titan to be selected to the midsummer classic and the first since Kurt Suzuki was chosen in 2014. Turner joins the list of former Titan All Stars that includes Suzuki, Ricky Romero (2011), Aaron Rowand (2007), Chad Cordero (2005), Phil Nevin (2001) and Tim Wallach (1984-85, 1987, 1989-90).

The Long Beach native is having a career year for the Los Angeles Dodgers so far with 84 hits in 219 at-bats. His .384 batting average leads the Dodgers and would lead all of MLB if he didn't miss significant time with a hamstring injury. He also sports a .473 on-base percentage to go along with eight home runs and 33 RBI. Since returning from his injury on June 9th, he has been a huge part of the Dodgers' hot streak that has them in first place in the NL West.

Turner spent four seasons at Cal State Fullerton from 2003 to 2006 including being a member of the 20-4 National Championship team in 2004. He was a freshman All-American and was named to the College World Series all-tournament team in 2003. He ranks in the Top 10 all-time for games (253), at bats (1008), hits (331), runs (202), doubles (61), total bases (430), hit by pitches (46), and sac hits (38) at Fullerton.

This will be the 88th MLB All-Star Game and will be played at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. The game will be nationally televised on FOX July 11 at 5pm.
