STARKVILLE, Miss. – It took two days, two weather delays, a suspended game and eight innings before a run was scored. However, the run that was scored in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI-fielder's choice would prove to be the difference in the game as No. 21 Cal State Fullerton edged Louisiana Tech, 1-0, Saturday morning as the two teams concluded a game which started the night before and was suspended due to rain and lightning in the area.

With the win, the Titans improve to 36-21 and move into the winner's bracket. Cal State Fullerton will face No. 4 Mississippi State Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., at Dudy Noble Field.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs drop to 40-19 on the year and will face Southeast Missouri State Saturday at 1:30 p.m., in an elimination game.

The Titans manufactured the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth after Josh Vargas led off the frame with a single through the right side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With one out, LA Tech reliever, Adam Atkins, intentionally walked Dalton Blaser, his second intentional walk of the game, to put two on for Jerrod Bravo who loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch.

With just one out and the bases full of Titans, Ruben Cardenas recorded an RBI-fielder's choice to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. The single run would prove to be the difference in a game that saw seven total pitchers, 14 runners left on base and a combined seven hits between the two teams.

Junior right-hander Scott Serigstad (2-1) earned the win as he came on in relief to start the eighth inning. Serigstad pitched 1.2 innings of work without allowing a base runner and fanned two as he lowered his season ERA to 1.09.

Sergistad was relieved by junior righty Dylan Prohoroff who collected his third save of the year. Prohoroff pitched 0.1 innings and faced two batters to end the game.

LA Tech's senior right-hander Adam Atkins (6-1) was tagged with the loss – his first of the year – after pitching the final 1.2 innings and allowing one run on one hit, while walking two and recording one strikeout.

Junior right-handed pitcher Blake Quinn got the start for the Titans and pitched 4.1 innings of work, while allowing just two hits. He did not allow a run during his outing and struck out three, while walking three.

Quinn went up against the Bulldogs' starting left-hander Phillip Diehl who logged 5.1 innings, while giving up two hits and tying his career-high with nine strikeouts against one walk.

The pitcher's duel was halted in the middle of the third inning due to rain and lightning in the area which caused a nearly two-hour weather delay.

When the game resumed, both starters took the mound but did not last long as each team threatened, but did not score.

LA Tech put runners at the corners in the top of the fourth after Jonathan Washam reached on a one-out single to left-center and moved to second after Chase Lunceford drew a base on balls. With runners at first and second, Cody Daigle took ball four from Quinn and Lunceford broke for second as Titans' catcher Chris Hudgins threw down. On the throw, Washman raced around third for home but was caught stealing as Cal State Fullerton second baseman Tristan Hildebrandt fired back to Hudgins to keep the Bulldogs off the board and end the inning.

The Titans made a pitching change in the top of the fifth and brought in sophomore southpaw John Gavin after Quinn walked the leadoff batter. Gavin got out of the inning stranding the runner at second.

Cal State Fullerton forced a pitching change on LA Tech in the bottom of the sixth as Hildebrandt led off the frame with a double to the left-centerfield gap and advanced to third on a sac bunt by Vargas. With the go-ahead run 90 feet away and just one out, the Bulldogs brought in Nate Harris to replace Diehl.

Despite the Titans' threat, LA Tech managed to get out of the jam as Harris recorded a pair of strikeouts to strand Hildebrandt at third.

With the game still scoreless going into the bottom of the seventh, the Titans' Ruben Cardenas singled back up the middle, but was picked off for the first out of the frame. Following the pick off, the game was suspended with Hudgins at the plate.

The Titans finished the game with five hits courtesy of Vargas (1-for-3), Blaser (1-for-2), Cardenas (1-for-4), Hudgins (1-for-3) and Hildebrandt (1-for-2).

The Bulldogs connected for just two hits in the game as the quartet of Titans' pitchers shut them out notching the fourth shutout of the year for Cal State Fullerton.
