Prettyman Joins Titans Coaching Staff

FULLERTON, Calif. – Former Indiana State assistant coach and Cal State Fullerton third baseman Ronnie Prettyman will join the Titans coaching staff for the 2015 baseball season, it was announced Wednesday.

Prettyman will take over as the volunteer assistant coach for the Titans in 2015. Prettyman completed his third season with the Sycamores baseball coaching staff in 2014, assisting Indiana State to another winning season on the diamond as well helping the program reach its second NCAA Tournament during his tenure.

"It's great to have Ronnie back in Fullerton," Titans head coach Rick Vanderhook said. "He knows what it takes to be a Titan, and he's a great addition to our coaching staff. Ronnie won a title here in 2004, so he knows how to win and more over he's done a fine job as a coach over at Indiana State in helping the Sycamores make some noise in the NCAA Tournament."

Prettyman returns to Cal State Fullerton a decade after he helped lead the Titans to the 2004 national title. He batted .324 and started all 69 games he played in that season, blasting five home runs to go along with 38 RBI. He also belted 16 doubles and stole 14 bases to go along with 53 runs scored.

In his three seasons with the Titans, Prettyman played in 197 games and made 195 starts, posting a .332 career batting average. He accumulated 253 hits including 51 doubles, 11 triples and 11 home runs to go along with 124 RBI. He helped lead the Titans to three straight appearances in the NCAA Super Regionals and back-to-back trips to the College World Series in 2003 and 2004.

Prettyman was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 10th round of the 2005 MLB First Year Player Draft, where he signed and played five seasons in their minor league system from 2005-09.

In his first season with Indiana State, the Sycamores posted their first outright Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship and their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1995. The Sycamores finished the 2012 season with 41-19 record. In his first season as a coach in 2012, Prettyman and Indiana State faced Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the Eugene Regional. The Titans went on to win that game 9-5.

In 2014, Prettyman assisted with the guidance of Indiana State's batters while working defensively with the infielders and catchers. The Sycamores finished the season with a 35-18 mark and received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Sycamores were a No. 2 seed at the Bloomington Regional, where they took on No. 3 Stanford is the opening round. Indiana State finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference to Evansville. Under Prettyman's tutelage, senior shortstop Tyler Wampler was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player Of The Week and drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

Prettyman is married to wife, Tiffany, and his father, Ron, is the current director of athletics at Indiana State.
