Big West Pitcher of the Week (March 4, 2013)
SUMMER 2014
Spent the summer with the USA Collegiate National Team, which
finished the summer with a record of 18-8-2... Made three starts
and had eight appearances, going 2-0 with one save and a 2.14
ERA... Allowed six runs, five earned in 21 innings pitched and
struck out 20 batters while issuing two walks... Opposing batters
hit .213 against him with just one extra-base hit.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2014)
Led the team with a career-high 123 and 2/3 innings pitched...
Went 8-3 with a 1.89 ERA and tossed five complete games, including
two complete-game shutouts... Struck out 99 batters and issued just
eight walks, leading the nation with a 12.38 strikeout-to-walk
ratio... Recorded a 0.87 WHIP to rank second in the Big West and
12th in the nation... Accolades included: Baseball America
All-American (Second Team), NCBWA All-American (Third Team), Big
West Conference Honorable Mention... Pitched a 10-inning complete
game shutout on Apr. 25 against Hawaii, becoming the first
Fullerton pitcher to throw a 10-inning complete game since Jason
Windsor in 2004... Struck out a career-high 12 batters against UC
Riverside on May 9... Threw three consecutive complete-games
against Hawaii, Long Beach State and UC Riverside... Went the first
63 innings of the season without issuing a walk, finally allowing
his first free pass of the year at Oregon on Mar. 1... Led the team
with 14 quality starts and went at least seven innings in 14 of his
16 starts during the season... In games against ranked opponents in
2014, went 2-0 with two no-decisions and tallied 29 strikeouts in
34 and 2/3 innings.
AS A FRESHMAN (2013)
Cal State Fullerton’s Friday-night starter, finished his
rookie campaign with a 12-3 record and 1.48 ERA…accolades
included: Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association Freshman Pitcher of the Year, ABCA/Rawlings
All-American (second team), ABCA All-West Region (first team),
Baseball America All-American (first team), Baseball America
Freshman All-American (first team), Louisville Slugger All-American
(first team), Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, NCBWA
All-American (second team), NCBWA Freshman All-American, Big West
Freshman Pitcher of the Year, Big West Conference First Team, Big
West Pitcher of the Week (03/04) and Golden Spikes Award
semifinalist…set CSF freshman records for innings pitched
(115.2) and ERA (1.48), while the 1.48 mark also ranks second in
Fullerton single-season history…led the country in
strikeout-to-walk ratio (27.67, Fullerton single-season record),
walks allowed per 9.0 innings (0.23, new Fullerton and NCAA
single-season record) and WHIP (0.77)…1.48 ERA led the Big
West, ranked 10th in the country and rated second among
rookie weekend starters…struck out 83 batters and walked
just three…his 12 wins tied teammate Justin Garza for the
Fullerton freshman record…totaled 13 quality
starts…on Feb. 15, 2013, became the first freshman to start
a season opener for the Titans since Feb. 5, 1987 when Mark Beck
took the mound vs. Saint Mary’s. Eshelman did not disappoint
the sellout crowd of 3,508 as CSF edged USC, 3-2…issued his
first walk of the season to Brandon Trinkwon in the top of the
sixth vs. UC Santa Barbara, ending his streak of 63 and 1/3 innings
without issuing a base on balls (04/12)…tossed five and 2/3
shutout innings and struck out eight in a series-opening 7-2 win at
TCU (02/22)…tossed a two-run, nine-inning complete game,
striking out six in an 8-2 win over Oregon, which earned him Big
West Pitcher of the Week honors (03/01)…tossed seven innings
of shutout, one-hit baseball in a 6-0, series-opening win at Long
Beach State (03/22)…matched a season high striking out eight
in eight innings in a series-opening 9-2 win against Pacific
(03/28)…pitched eight shutout innings and struck out four in
series-opening 3-0 win at UC Davis (04/05)…tossed eight
innings of one-run baseball and struck out seven in series-opening
4-3 win over UC Santa Barbara (04/12)…pitched eight innings
of one-run baseball and struck out seven as Cal State Fullerton
booked a trip to the Super Regionals with a 6-1 win over Arizona
State (06/02).
SUMMER 2012
Played for the Klamath Falls Gems of the West Coast
League • In 16 appearances and 29 and 1/3 innings pitched,
managed a 5-0 record with three saves while striking out 35 •
Was named the No. 5 prospect in the WCL by PerfectGame and the No.
10 prospect by Baseball America…was also named to the
all-WCL second team.

seven-day trip to the Dominican Republic to deliver bats, gloves,
