CARY, N.C. – Cal State Fullerton sophomore Matt Chapman was named to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team final 24-man roster, it was announced on Sunday.
The Collegiate National Team has three games remaining in its tour of the Coastal Plains League. International competition is slated to begin July 5 with an exhibition contest against the Matsuyama Industrial League. The 39th edition of the USA-Japan series gets underway July 6 in Matsuyama, Japan. Upon returning to the United States, the CNT will play a pair of exhibition games before opening up a five game series against Cuba on July 18 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team will wrap up a mini two-game series at High Point-Thomasville Sunday night at 5:05 ET.
The Collegiate National Team is managed by TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle.
During training camp, Chapman played in all seven games, starting six. He drove in a team-leading eight runs while batting .421 with five runs scored, three doubles, a .579 slugging percentage and two stolen bases.
Chapman becomes the 21st Titan to represent Cal State Fullerton on the Collegiate National Team, dating back to 1987. In addition, the Titans have placed a student-athlete on the Collegiate National Team for the last six straight seasons.
