Costa Mesa, Calif. - Gaby Ponce led a fairly tight pack of Cal State Fullerton runners to an eighth-place finish Saturday in the Vanguard Invitational Cross Country Meet at Fairview Park.
With the first string getting the day off, Ponce finished 35th individually in a time of 19:24 for the 5K course. She was followed immediately by Jana Stokes in 36th place in 19:25. They were followed by Valerie Acevedo in 46th place, Ashley Millett in 49th and Sarah Whitake in 55th.
U.S.C. won the team scoring wih 18 points followed by Orange Coast (33) and Concordia (53).
THe Titans sent only three male runners so did not get a team score. Josh McCarty led the way in 33rd place in 27:09 for the 8K course. He was followed by Brian Aleman in 35th and Alex Soria in 60th.
The entire team runs again Friday at 5 p.m. at the Cal State Northridge Invitational.
