Eugene, Oregon - Senior Carolyn Ellis was the top Cal State Fullerton female runner and freshman Tyler Reed was the top male runner for the Titans in Saturday's NCAA Western Regional Cross Country Meet at the University of Oregon.

The Titan men placed 21st among 26 teams while the women had only two entrants and thus no team score. Ellis finished 46th in 22:06.83 for the 6K course and Yomaira Hernandez was 84th in 22:45.60.

Reed placed 79th in a time of 32:46.59 on the 10K course. Titans trailing him were Ren Jones in 101st, Jose Gutierrez in 145th, Corey Bullock in 149th and John Carrell in 156th.

"Carolyn ran a solid race," said CSF Head Coach John Elders. "She was eighth among Big West runners after being 16h at the Big West meet. This will be a good springboard for her into track season.
"Yomaira got out well but then let herself drop back and when she tried to step it up, it wasn't there.

"Our two senior men were not a factor. Erik Estrada had a heel injury occur during warmups and Eddie Perez wasn't ready because of the flu. Tyler gave a good effort and Ren Jones had a solid race."

Washington won the women's competition and Stanford captured the men's race.
