Oct. 3, 2009

Stillwater, OK - Yomaira Hernandez ran 34th for the women and Joey Divizia ran 41st in the men's race to pace Cal State Fullerton's efforts at Saturday's 73rd Annual Cowboy Jamboree cross country race.

Running against a nationally competitive field, the Titan men 12th among 25 teams and the women were 14th among 24 teams, many of which are nationally ranked. Northern Arizona won the men's race led by first-place finisher Jordan Chipangama in 23:44.70 for the 8K. Texas Tech ran first in the women's team and individual results with Lillian Badaru winning the 5K race in 17:10.50.

Divizia was clocked in 25:14 while Hernandez' time was 18:17.20.

"It was a difficult course and a great course," said Fullerton Head Coach John Elders. "It was a great experience for us to run in a meet of this stature.

"We didn't get out well in either the men's or women's race. We got caught up in the pack when the course narrowed. Joey did a nice job of continuously moving up and Yomaira ran well.

"We had a 44-second gap from our first male runner to the second and the gap was too big for the women, too.

"We have to focus on the next four weeks and the Big West Conference Championships. We need to focus on quality training and doing something positive at the Northridge Invitational. We need to get our confidence up."
