RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Fullerton Cross Country team boasted a strong showing at the UCR Invitational Saturday morning, highlighted by a personal best from Jicel Fernandez Ramirez and 16th place finish from the women's team in the 6K race.
"This was a great opportunity to put our team in a position to gain some valuable experience competing against some of the best in The Big West," Cal State Fullerton assistant coach Alex Tebbe said. "I'm proud of the way our runners rose up to the challenge and competed today."
The women's team tallied 403 points in the 6K race, fueled by a 44th place finish from Ramirez with a personal-best time of 21:19. Maria Hernandez placed 65th with a time of 21:32 while Laura Velasco took 73rd after finishing in 21:38 to round out the Titans' top-100 finishers.
In the men's 8K race, Nathan England led the way for the Titans with a time of 25:15. Justin Singer notched a time of 25:36 while Bobby Brana finished in 26:51.
Bella Smith, running unattached, sped to a second-place finish with a time of 17:50 after leading for much of the women's 5K contest. Kaitlyn Atkinson (84th) and Katie Farr (99th) rounded out the Titans' runners in the race with times of 19:29 and 19:44, respectively.
The Titans will next compete at the Bill Dellinger Invite on Friday, September 23rd at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Oregon.
