NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Cal State Fullerton women's cross country team took home a first place finish at the 2019 Joe Piane Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon while the men's team finished in 14th place.
The women finished with a score of 131 posting a total time of 1:28:20 just edging out Miami (Ohio), who posted a 1:28:21. The Titans beat Miami by five points as the Redhawks finished with a score of 136.
The women's team was led by Samantha Huerta's 12th place finish with a 5K time of 17:23.94. Trinity Ruelas was not far behind Huerta finishing 15th with a time of 17:26.31 while Alyssa Block posted a time of 17:45.89, good for 29th. Kelsey Carroll (17:48.63) finished 29th and McKaylie Caesar (17:54.73) was just behind her in 39th to round out the scoring. Sarah Hollis and Sandra Flores finished right next to each other with times of 18:09.28 and 18:09.74, respectively.
For the men, they tallied 319 points in 14th place with a 2:08:02 total time. Utah Valley and Miami (Ohio) tied for first place with a final score of 86.
Jorge Sanchez (25:13.05) and Jacob Smith (25:14.63) led Fullerton coming in 35th and 36th place respectively. Anthony Alfaro was the third Titan across the finish line, coming in 74th, with a time of 25:41.54 while Erik Gonzalez came in right behind him in 75th with a 25:42.02. Edgar Villa (26:10.03) was the final scorer for the Titans in 101st. Cayden Ruiz clocked a time of 26:26.35, Uriel Medina posted a 26:39.47, and Eric Jimenez posted a 26:45.81 to round out the rest of the squad.
Next up for the Titans is the UCR Highlander Invitational on October 19.
