FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's and women's cross country swept the Mark Covert Classic on Saturday morning at Carbon Canyon Regional Park.
The men's squad won the 8K with 60 points, followed by Cal Coast Track Club in second place with 76 points and Loyola Marymount in third at 111.
On the women's side, CSF tallied 41 points to take first place in the 5,000-meter race. Cal Baptist finished in second at 60 points and Cal Coast Track Club was third with 76 points.
Newcomer Erik Gonzalez led the way for the men's team with an 8K finish of 24:55.9 to take third place overall and first among collegians. Jacob Smith was sixth overall at 25:13.2, Anthony Alfaro clocked a time of 25:15.2 to take eight place, Uriel Medina's time of 25:42.0 was good for 21st and Edgard Villa was the final scorer at 25:51.5 in 30th place.

Trinity Ruelas was second overall and first among collegians in the 5K with a time of 17:51.9. Three Titans, Alyssa Block (18:17.8), McKaylie Caesar (18:18.5) and Sarah Hollis (18:20.9) finished in seventh, eighth and ninth places while Kelsey Carroll (18:32.8) was the fifth scorer in 15th place.
