FULLERTON, Calif. – Former Cal State Fullerton distance runner Nick Arciniaga competed in the 2014 New York City Marathon, placing 10th overall this past Sunday.

The native of Fountain Valley, Calif., completed the annual marathon of over 26 miles that courses through the five boroughs of New York City in 2:15:39. Arciniaga was the third American runner to cross the line, finishing behind Meb Keflezighi (fourth overall; 2:13:18) and Ryan Vail (ninth overall; 2:15:08). Kenya's Wilson Kipsang captured the men's title in 2:10:59, among over 50,000 entrants in notably the largest marathon in the world.

Currently competing with Team USA Arizona, Arciniaga also participated at the 2014 Boston Marathon, completing the 26 mile course in 2:11:47, good for seventh overall while being the second American to finish the race. In his 2008 Boston Marathon appearance (10th overall; 2:16:13), he was the first American man to cross the finish line.

Residing in Flagstaff, Ariz., Arciniaga placed eighth in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in Houston, but failed to qualify for the team. Carding a time of 2:11.56, Arciniaga trailed third place by a little over two minutes, the final qualifying spot.

As a student-athlete at Cal State Fullerton, Arciniaga holds the fifth fastest time for a male Titan at the Big West Conference Championships, setting an 8K mark of 24:54.70 in Riverside, Calif., at the 2004 event. 

Arciniaga also garners the sixth fastest time in the Men's NCAA West Region Championships for a Titan, completing the 10K race in 31:21:00 at the 2003 competition in Portland, Ore.
