FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2012 NCAA West Regional Championships at the Jefferson Park Golf Course on Friday in Seattle.
The Titan women finished 28th in the Regional with a total of 864 points. Junior Lauren McIntyre's time of 22:22 (156th overall) led the Titan women in the 6,0000-meter race. Sophomore Katie Bathgate finished 170th with a time of 22:39, while sophomore Tijerra Lynch competed the race in 186th place with a time of 23:09.
Senior Lexie Bravo finished in 187th place with a time of 23:17, while sophomore Ladan Amiri was the fifth and final Titan to score, finishing 196th with a time of 23:36. Freshman Natalie Hassna, competing in her first postseason event, finished with a time of 23:49 (199th).
With a score of 784, the men's side finished 25th in the Western Regional. Sophomore Marco Zaragoza led the Titans with a time of 32:17 and a finish of 130th. Sophomore Jayson Perez finished 164th with a time of 33:18. In his first postseason competition, freshman Jeff Little placed 166th with a time of 33:20.
Junior Anthony Castellon completed the 10,000-meter course in a time off 33:35, good for 167th, while junior Brandon Cook was the final Titan to score, finishing 172nd in a time of 33:37. In his first postseason race, freshman Donald Bernard placed 173rd (33:38), while freshman Tim Reed completed the course with a time of 35:00 (183rd).
Nine NCAA Regional Championships were held on Friday, and the top two teams from each Regional automatically advanced to the NCAA Championships held on Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky. For the women, Oregon placed first followed by Stanford on the women's side of the Western Regional, while Stanford finished first in the men's division followed by Portland.
At-large bids will be decided for 13 men's and 13 women's teams on Saturday.
