Former Titan 2nd in Pan Am Games Pole Vault

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Former Titan Giovanni Lanaro (Valinda, CA) won the silver medal in the pole vault for Mexico at the 2007 Pan Am Games which concluded Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Lanaro, who has dual U.S. and Mexican citizenship, cleared the bar at 5.30 meters or about 17 feet, 4 3/4 inches. He missed three times at 5.40 or 17 feet, 8 5/8 inches which Fabio Silva of Brazil cleared on his third attempt to win the gold. German Chiaraviglio of Argentina was third at 5.20 or about 17 feet, 3/4 inches. No American cleared the qualifying height.

Lanaro set the Cal State Fullerton school record at 18 feet, 4 1/2 inches in 2004.
