Golden Finishes in Tie for 18th in NCAA High Jump

June 12, 2008

Des Moines, Iowa - Cal State Fullerton junior Johnathan Golden tied for 18th place in the high jump Wednesday night at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium. On Friday night, Teammate Garrett Myers committed fouls on all of his jumps and tied for 23rd in the field of 26.

Golden cleared 2.10 meters or about 6 feet, 10 5/8 inches. The top 13 jumpers advanced to the finals. Nine cleared 2.14 and the next four advanced on fewer misses at 2.10 meters.

"Johnathan competed very well," said Assistant Coach Brandon Campbell. "He was well over the bar on his best attempt, but clipped it with his heel.

"Considering he had a nagging leg injury and that the weather caused him to warmup and then wait around for several hours, I was proud of his performance."

Golden was seeded 27th in the field.
