Men's Relay Team, Epstein Advance in Regionals

Eugene, OR - Cal State Fullerton's men's 4x100 meter relay team Friday ran a season's best 40.47 and Chris Epstein finished sixth in the preliminaries of the men's 400 meters to advance to Saturday's finals of the NCAA West Regional Track & Field Championships at the University of Oregon.

Sacramento State won Fullerton's heat and USC won the first heat. Arizona had the best time among runnersup at 40.12 to take the third spot. Oregon was fourth and the Fullerton team of Lawrence Trice, Epstein, Marques Barosso and Maurice Chappell placed fifth. The top three finishers tomorrow will advance to the nationals at Sacramento beginning June 6.

In individual events, the top five finishers advance to the nationals. Epstein ran 48:03.

In the women's 100 meter hurdles, Fullerton's Dinah Clark ran a school record 13.86 (she has a wind-aided time of 13.77) to finish third in her heat but she did not qualify for the finals. In the men's hammer throw, Scott Hutchison had a best throw of 177 feet, 6 inches to finish 24th. In the women's 400 meters, Kimiah Hudson finished 14th in a time of 55.72 while Kandace Wilson was a scratch after injuring ribs in a fall at home on Tuesday. Laron Brown placed 11th in the men's long jump at 23 feet, 5 1/4 inches. Roberto Archibold ran 14th in 53.21 in the men's 400 meter hurdles.
