Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton athletes placed in three field events and Ciara Short and Lauren Williams qualified first in their track specialties on the first day of the Big West Conference Track and Field Championships Fridayi at UC Irvine.
Danny Savoie placed second in the men's high jump at 6 feet 8 ¾ inches and Ginny English was third in the women's pole vault at 11 feet, 11 ¾ inches. Danielle Morton was fourth in the women's javelin with a toss of 125 feet, 3 inches.
Short qualified first in her two top events - the 400 in 54.34 and the 200 in 23.48. Katie Wilson qualified fourth in the 400 in 55.26. Williams, in her bid to become a four-time Big West hurdles champion, qualified first in 13.51.
After seven events, Fullerton was in eighth place in both the men's and women's standings. Cal State Northridge had a big lead in the women's competition and Long Beach State had a lead over UC Davis on the men's side.
The meet concludes Saturday.
