Short, Williams Pace CSF

Irvine, Calif. - Ciara Short and Lauren Williams continued to excell for the Cal State Fullerton track and field squad over the weekend at the Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine.

Short won the 400 meters and was third in the 200 meters while Williams won the 100 meter hurdles by more than one-third of a second. Short clocked 53.77 to win the 400 and 24.04 in the 200. Williams ran the hurdles in 13.72, besting her runnerup by 0.37 seconds.

For the men, Bryan Luther won his section of the 100 meters in 10.77. He ran fifth in his section in the 200. John Carrell was sixth at 15:04.88 in the 5000 meter, Lamar Oliphant tied for third in the high jump at 6-feet-6 3/4 and Andrew Sullivan and Shawn McNany were part of a tie at third place in the pole vault at 15-feet-7 1/4.

Other women's highlights included Bonnie Sorensen, tied for second in the high jump at 5-feet-5 and Ginny English and Alison Stamos were part of a tie for fifth in the pole vault at 11-feet-9.

Meanwhile, in Palo Alto, Carolyn Ellis ran 16th in the women's 3000 meter steeplechaase in 10:39.24 at the Payton Jordan Invitational.

Upcoming are the Big West Conference Championships at Cal State Northridge. The combined events will be staged this weekend with the main meet on May 14 and 15. A limited number of athletes will compete May 8 in the Occidental Invitational.
