Hunt Wins Discus

Gainesville, Florida - Senior Jameena Hunt won the discus to highlight the Cal State Fullerton performers Friday and Saturday in the Florida Relays Track and Field Meet.

Hunt topped a national field of 25 competitors with a seasonal best throw of 51.47 meters, edging Keely Medeiros of the host Gators by about 10 centimeters.

"One of the things I'm really impressed with her this year and at the end of last year, she really has a handle on the mental game, in terms of how she approcahces competiton," said Fullerton Coach John Elders. "She's really made a big step forward and it's made a huge difference for her."

Hunt also placed ninth in the hammer throw with a best mark of 51.90 meters.

Ciara Short competed Friday in both the 200 and 400 meter races. She placed tenth in the 400 with a time of 53.93 and 14th in the 200 in a time of 23.85. Lauren Williams placed 18th in the 100 hurdles in 13.98.

In the women's pole vault, Alison Stamos had a best jump of 3.66 meters to tie for tenth place. Bryan Luther tied for 37th in the men's 100 in 10.83.

On Saturday, Laron Brown tied for 13th in the men's high jump with a best effort of 2.0 meters. Andrew Sullivan placed 19th in the men's pole vault with a best jump of 4.8 meters.
