Kara Kalmar placed fourth in the women's pole vault and Ashley Sims qualified for the finals of both the 100 and 200 meters to highlight Cal State Fullerton's efforts Saturday on the first day of the Cal-Nevada Track & Field Championships at Claremont College.

Kalmar cleared 3.55 meters before failing on three attempts at 3.70. The winning height was 3.85 by Holly Wasseloff of San Diego State. Other Titan points came in the javelin where Leah Maurer (38.39 meters) and Danielle Morton (38.01 meters) were surprise finalists at eighth and ninth place, respectively. On the men's side, Anthony Castellon finished seventh in the 10,000 meters at 31:37.0.

Sims was the top qualifier in the 200 at 24.55 seconds. She ran fifth in the 100 in 12.10.

Other Titan qualifiers were Deena Pierce, ninth in the 100 meter hurdles at 14.67; Katie Wilson and Morgan Thompson, fourth and fifth in the 400 meters at 55.64 and 56.99; Bryan Luther, eighth in the men's 100 at 10.86 and ninth in the 200 at 21.74; and Brandon Cook, fourth in the men's 800 at 1:55.46.
