Freshmen Capture Spotlight for Titan Track

Tempe, Arizona - Freshmen Ciara Short, Bonnie Sorensen and Andrew Sullivan captured the praise of Cal State Fullerton track Coach John Elders Saturday evening at the 2008 Arizona State Invitational track and field meet.

Short had an "outstanding" 400 meters, running 55.12 to take one and a half seconds off her personal record. Sorensen soared 18 feet, 10 inches to beat her personal best in the triple jump by 7 inches. Sullivan cleared a personal best of 15 feet, 9 inches and just missed at 16 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault.

"We competed well under great conditions for a night meet in the desert," said Elders. "We had numerous seasonal and personal bests and came away feeling pretty good about the meet.

"We are preparing well and are set up well for the Big West Challenge."

Other Titan highlights:

The 4x400 relay teams did well. The women cut 3 seconds off their best time of the year with a mark of 3:45.03, good for second place from Short, Channing and Chelsea Moreland and Brittany McClellan and the men ran 3:14.70 to finish fifth for Lawrence Trice, Roberto Archibold, Aaron Pickens and Garrett Myers.

Errin Wilkes was second in the triple jump at 38 feet, 3 1/2 inches and Myers was third in the men's triple jump at 47 feet, 11 1/4 inches.

Julius Joseph had a personal best of 145 feet, 2 inches in the discus, a week after seteting a personal best in the shot put.

Archibold took fifth in the 400 hurdles at 52.95.
