Claremont, Calif. - Ciara Short was the top qualifier in the women's 200 and 400 meters and teammate Lauren Williams did likewise in the women's 100 hurdles Saturday on the first day of the Cal-Neva Track & Field Championship at Claremont College.
Short won the 200 preliminaries in 23.52 and the 400 in 54.80 while Williams was clocked in 13.79 to pace the hurdlers. The finals will be run Sunday.
Also qualifying for Sunday were Tony Crutchfield at 15.01 in the men's 110 high hurdles, Javon May at 54.31 in the men's 400 hurdles and Katie Wilson in 24.56 in the women's 200 meters.
Placing in finals Saturday were Bonnie Sorensen, sixth in the women's long jump with a season's best 18 feet, 6 1/2 inches; Lauren McIntyre, sixth in the women's 5000 meters in a personal best 17:37.88; and John Carrell, fourth in the men' 5000 in 14:46.77.
